Self Help Group Linkage
A Self-Help Group (SHG) is a collective of individuals, typically women, who come together to achieve common goals like financial empowerment, economic stability, and social support. SHGs encourage savings, self-reliance, and group solidarity while providing access to credit, financial services, and capacity-building programs. In an SHG linkage model, these groups are linked to formal financial institutions, like banks, for access to affordable loans, savings accounts, and other financial products.
The SHG linkage model has been widely promoted in countries like India to foster financial inclusion, empower marginalized communities, and support poverty alleviation. Through this linkage, banks and microfinance institutions lend money to SHGs, which, in turn, provide access to credit for individual members in the group.
